Glam It Up!
Add a Shot of Hollywood Chic to Your Home!
Picture this: You come home from a long day at work or running the kids back and forth to soccer practice. You make dinner, get the kids in bed and now it's your turn to relax. Wouldn't it be wonderful to walk into your bedroom and pull the velvet coverlet off the bed and slip in between the luxurious sheets to relax with a great book!
We all want a haven to retreat to at the end of the day. One style trend that continues to be strong is the Glamour Look. The easiest room to work this trend into is the bedroom.
A lot of us are extremely practical when it comes to decorating our homes. We want fabrics that wear well with the kids and pets. We want sisal rugs that will hold up to the running around. We look for low maintenance and easy care. Give in to a little splurge! Going Glam, we're talking velvet, chandeliers, beaded trim, (faux) fur throws and pillows, mirrored furniture and rich silks. It's a sophisticated layering of fabrics and sumptuousness that makes you go "Ahhhhh."

The style of the glam look is partly rooted in the 1920's or Art Deco era and partly in Hollywood/celebrity chic. Metallics, purples, rounded forms and lacquer were aspects of Art Deco design. It's really a trend in feeling pampered, enveloped in comfort and luxurious surroundings. And seriously, who doesn't want that?!
Keep the colors monochromatic in golds and creams and add a shot of purple or black for a little drama.
So how do you achieve your very own Glam look at home? It's all about the senses and tactile surfaces. In your bedroom, start with a velvet or silk coverlet. Mix in lots of pillows (the men will just have to deal with it!) and add a fabulous chandelier over your bed. Keep the colors monochromatic in golds and creams and add a shot of purple or black for a little drama.
For furniture, there has been a huge movement in mirrored pieces. Add a nightstand or vanity glistening with mirrors. Add a little more sparkle with shimmery paint. Benjamin Moore makes a line of glazes that are gorgeous! Try the bronze glaze over a caramel paint color.
Treat your windows with sweeping panels and light diffusing sheers. Swags add another layer of grandeur. Or just add some large tassel tiebacks to your existing panels.
We all want to feel cocooned and at the end of the day, we just want to get away from the stresses of everyday life. Make your bedroom a place of rest and relaxation. Sit back in your chaise, sip a glass of wine and feel like a movie star, even if it's just for the moment! You deserve it!
